Barrhead Town Centre Project Ideas - UK Levelling Up Fund - Draft

East Renfrewshire Council will be submitting a bid for Levelling Up funding from UK government for the regeneration of Thornliebank and Barrhead. If we are successful in securing funding, it is our intention to take forward a package of proposals described at a high level within this document. 

We are proposing a range of innovative and exciting projects in the towns that will support local businesses, provide new open spaces for residents and visitors and deliver more community-based services.

Support from stakeholders in the community will be viewed as critical to the success of our ambitious, but realistic, bid.

In the past, most of our town centres were built with the motor car in mind. Today we want improve how people can move around town centres on foot or wheel because of the multiple advantages this has in reducing our dependency on fossil fuels; improving interaction of people with their town centre and improving the health and wellbeing of the community

Community feedback on the town centre has told us that it is tired and needs improvement that will make it an attractive and active place to spend time. Improvements like this make the town centre more sustainable as people want to spend more time there.

The proposals below will improve the public spaces in town and help restore civic pride. 

Improving how the community can access halls, public spaces and services is important to the delivery of services in the town centre. Some of our public buildings could be refurbished to provide improved and new services.

The proposals below will improve the Barrhead museum so that it can provide a wider range of services.
